10 Riders Will Be Riding RBC Gran Fondo On September 7th, 2024

Founded in honour of Krista Guloien Temple, our all-women cycling team is a testament to resilience, strength, and determination. Comprising 11 passionate and dedicated cyclists, our team draws inspiration from Krista's journey, embodying her spirit of perseverance both on and off the bike.

Krista's personal battle and story with breast cancer resonates deeply with our team, motivating us to break barriers and showcase the power of women in athletics.

 

Together, we strive to empower each other, support our communities, and promote awareness around breast cancer, as we race towards our goals with grit and grace.

We encourage one another during challenges, and honour the strength within each of us.

 

We ride not just for ourselves, but for all women who strive to overcome obstacles, drawing from the remarkable legacy of Krista Guloien Temple.

We are thrilled and honored to support our women's cycling team as they prepare to tackle the challenging 122 km ride up 1900 m elevation, all in tribute to the inspiring Krista Guloien Temple.

 

This ride not only represents a significant physical achievement but also embodies our commitment to celebrate and support the incredible journey of women in sports. Our team is driven and inspired by Krista's passion and perseverance, and we can't wait to see the road cyclists rocking the jersey in her honor.

Marla Guloien

Marla Guloien is the sister of Krista Guloien Temple who rallied support for her back in March 2024. Since then, the call to action has been answered. 

 

As the mastermind behind the scenes, Marla has been a powerhouse force, coordinating efforts and mobilizing resources to ensure that Krista's journey is met with love and support. Her relentless spirit and advocacy have not only uplifted her sister but have also inspired many others to join the fight against breast cancer. Through her actions, Marla exemplifies the profound strength of sisterhood and compassion.

Leah Guloien

Leah Guloien is a champion cyclist acclaimed for her exceptional talent and speed, particularly recognized as the first and fastest woman to conquer the RBC Gran Fondo. With a competitive spirit and relentless determination, Leah has made her mark in the cycling world, inspiring many with her achievements.

 

As the sister of Krista Guloien, Leah compounds the family's legacy of athletic excellence.  She leads on training rides to get people out and inspired in support of Krista's fundraiser.

RIDER PROFILE

Amy Hawksworth

Amy Hawksworth is our team captain, a dedicated mother of two, and a passionate cyclist. She feels that cycling brings a sense of freedom and provides a great opportunity to enjoy valuable “me time” in nature.

 

While she does not consider herself a competitive cyclist, Amy loves to challenge herself. She has participated in events such as the Ride to Conquer Cancer and the Valleyfondo, and this year will mark her third attempt at the Whistler Grandfondo since 2013.

As a leader on the team, Amy is inspired to share Krista's story and is an incredibly dedicated friend.

Aoife McMahon

Meet Aoife, a vibrant and passionate athlete who embraces life to the fullest. With an impressive athletic portfolio, she has completed three marathons, one half Ironman, six half marathons, and four triathlons. Beyond her athletic achievements, she is a proud mother of Irish twins and a dedicated business owner alongside her husband. Aoife's diverse background also includes her experience as a former national-level Irish dancer, showcasing her commitment to excellence in every endeavour.

 

Whether on the bike or in business, Aoife approaches each challenge with enthusiasm and determination. 

Aoife is also our team lead for the Auction.

RIDER PROFILE

Christine Hall

Christine lost her mom to lung cancer when she was only 47, leaving her with a profound impact at just 13 years old. This experience shaped her life and ignited her passion for health and wellness. Now, she is a dedicated mother of two teenagers, a Personal Trainer, Fitness Studio Owner, and a Board Certified Health Coach.

An avid fitness enthusiast, Christine enjoys downhill skiing, running, and cycling. She has completed an impressive 10 full marathons, 1 triathlon, the Valley Fondo, and 5 Tour de Cure rides in support of the BC Cancer Foundation.

 

This year, she is excited to take on her first Whistler Fondo. 😊

RIDER PROFILE

Alicia Billingsley

Alicia is an experienced cyclist who has competed in multiple fondos including the Whistler Giro Race. She has also raced elite road and cyclocross, and currently competes on an elite team in cycling Esports racing. She has also spent most of her adult life coaching multiple sports including cycling alongside her professional Kinesiology and Bike Fitting career.

Alicia is also our ride leader out of Trek store with Leah for The Clinic. She is a confident leader, phenomenal person and we are very lucky to have her on the team.

RIDER PROFILE

Kristin Henry

Kristin is a former national team rower and now a busy mom who continues to advocate for athletes in Canada in her role at AthletesCAN. She uses cycling as a way to stay fit and loves how much her 3 year old daughter also loves it!

 

She competed in the Valley GranFondo the last two years, and is looking forward to riding the Whistler GranFondo for the first time this year. She is also currently pursuing a masters degree and recently become head coach of the SFU Rowing program, where she began her rowing career.

Larissa Werbicki

Larissa Werbicki, born and raised in Saskatoon, is a former member of the Canadian National Rowing Team with a successful career spanning 8 years. She has won several medals including a bronze at the Youth Olympic Games, a silver at the Junior World Championships and a silver at the Pan American Games.

 

After her sporting career she transitioned in the corporate world and is currently working at KPMG in the Management Consulting division on the Technology Strategy and Digital Transformation team in Vancouver.

RIDER PROFILE

Lisa Roman

Lisa won GOLD in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic rowing champion in the women’s 8+ who looked to starting a family post Olympics. After a long fertility journey Lisa became a new twin mom in Nov 2023 and has enjoyed cycling as a way to get her fitness back. Lisa competed in the valley fondo after ending her career rowing this past June.

 

Lisa is working toward finalizing her master and has continued to help coach rowing at the university of the Fraser valley. This will be her first whistler fondo.

RIDER PROFILE

Caileigh Filmer

Caileigh is a three-time Olympian, two-time Olympic medalist at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and World Champion in rowing for Canada. Not only has Caileigh competed internationally as a rower but also as a professional cyclist on the road and the track in 2022. She specialized as a time-trialist on the road that included placing fifth at the Canadian Road National Championships twice in the ITT. Caileigh is passionate about mental health and community through her involvement in sport. Caileigh will continue contributing to the community through her development as a rowing coach and further this as she begins her Fire Fighting Technologies Certificate at JIBC this fall. This will be her first whistler fondo.

Madison Mailey.png

RIDER PROFILE

Madison Mailey

Madison Mailey joined the Canadian national team programme in 2017, competing in the eight at the World Rowing U23 Championships, where she would win back-to-back gold medals. After the second gold in 2018, she joined the senior team for the World Rowing Championships, helping the eight to come through the repechage to claim a silver medal.

 

In June of 2021, she was named to the Canada's 2020 Olympic Roster in the women's eight.

 

That boat would go on to win the gold medal for Canada, the first in the event since 1992.

RIDER PROFILE

Jill Moffatt

Jill is a dedicated and accomplished athlete, having represented Canada as a competitor in two Olympic rowing events. With a strong foundation in rowing, Jill discovered the joys of road cycling during the pandemic, using it as a form of cross-training. What started as a way to stay fit and maintain skills quickly blossomed into a genuine passion for cycling.

Now, Jill enjoys riding for fun, often embarking on exciting adventures with friends, exploring new routes and scenic landscapes. Whether racing on the water or pedaling through picturesque trails, Jill embodies a spirit of exploration and a love for the outdoors, inspiring others to embrace physical activity and the thrill of new experiences.
